Deaf Fitness
Fitness and Wellbeing
We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded funding from Liverpool City Council’s Life Rooms and will be working in partnership with Merseyside Society for Deaf People. Funding awarded has enabled us to fund Profoundly Deaf native British Sign Language users who will adopt the role of a Qualified Personal Trainer and a Community Liaison Officer. We are excited that this new project will see Deaf Active and MSDP collaborate in delivering Fitness and Wellbeing sessions that creates a platform to improve the lives of Deaf people and support a marginalised group with improving mental health. This project encompasses the Liverpool City Region and provide Deaf people with the opportunity to participate in an array of health and fitness activities. Deaf Active and MSDP will work together to provide On-to-One sessions, Small Group Sessions and Fitness Classes with scope to provide such activities via outreach or venue specific training.
This is also an excellent opportunity for Deaf Active and MSDP to further raise awareness to mainstream fitness providers who currently benefit economically from the Deaf community but are less aware of the barriers and obstacles that Deaf people face when accessing their services.
This extremely proactive step by Liverpool City Council will also see Deaf Active and MSDP provide essential information relating to the project be shared at the highest levels of the council to ensure that fitness providers have the knowledge and understanding of the needs of Deaf people so that changes and adaptation can take place.
