Sign & Play

Sign & Play

Our Sign & Play sessions are designed for children aged 0–5 years and their parents, carers, or guardians, providing a fun, welcoming, and inclusive environment where families can learn and play together through British Sign Language (BSL).

Held every Thursday from 10:00am to 11:30am at the Deaf Active Centre, the sessions combine free play with structured activities that introduce BSL in an engaging and interactive way. Through games, stories, songs, crafts, and themed activities, children and adults develop their communication skills while building confidence, creativity, and social connections.

As well as our centre-based sessions, we work with local Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) settings to deliver Sign & Play within nurseries and early years environments. These sessions are tailored to support the EYFS curriculum, promoting language development, communication, inclusion, and early learning through accessible and enjoyable BSL activities.

Whether attending at Deaf Active or within an early years setting, Sign & Play helps children and families discover the benefits of learning BSL from an early age in a supportive and engaging environment.
